The Good Ol Days

As I was browsing through channels on my lazy Sunday, I realized that there are no more good family value sitcoms.  You know what I’m talking about.  The shows that kept it light, but also made you feel good and taught you a thing or two along the way.  What happened?  All there is now is reality TV and I don’t just mean trashy reality TV.  I mean have you ever heard of “The Alaskan Bush People”?  Yeah me neither, but there’s a show for it.  You can dream it and there’s a show.  Hell I could have a reality TV show either at the store or at home.  The interaction between John and I is priceless. Ha!  We’ve already missed such good material.

Do people just not want to watch family shows anymore?  I’m so confused.  I remember my mom, dad, brother and me all watching the same show together.  It was one of the ways we spent quality time.  And the language on TV these days.  It’s pretty ridiculous.  When did it become ok to say G..Damn on TV?  I think the only word that hasn’t been approved is the F word.  How did we get here?  Am I going to have to dust off old DVDs of Who’s the Boss and The Cosby Show for my girls and me to watch together?   I can name countless shows that got all of us thru childhood and made us think.  Family Matters, Fresh Prince of BelAir, Full House and so many more.  I honestly can’t think of a single one these days.  As much as I love Modern Family it still doesn’t compare to these old feel good sitcoms.  Maybe I just have to get over it and accept this is where we are at OR maybe someone will grow a conscience and write another family value sitcom that all families can watch together.  All I can do is hope.  In the meantime I guess Keeping Up With the Kardashians will have to do. Ha!
