Higher The Heel…

You know that saying “ the higher the heel the better”?

Well that’s a saying I’ve been living most of my life by. I’m 5’2” and love the way a heel makes me look, but better yet, how they make me feel. When I try on clothes, I instantly stand on my tip toes.

The only problem with the higher the heel the better you feel is that it may not actually be accurate. Have I been lied to all these years? Have I been living a lie? Has wearing heels on concrete floors for 8-10 hours a day for almost 9 years caught up with me? I’m scared to say it out loud. Here goes…

I’ve been having lower back pain and pain that goes down my leg. Sigh. Several doctors later, they finally diagnosed me and found that the route of my problem is, (say it ain’t so), HEELS!!! That’s right. My lovelies, my loves, my everything are causing my whole back, knees and hips issues. For crying out loud, I don’t even know how to dress without heels. Heels are an extension of my legs. I can run in them, dance, climb ladders, you name it, I can do it in heels.

Every year when New York puts on a 0.5K stiletto run in Buffalo for ovarian cancer, I think I’m going to do it. Better yet, I keep waiting on another High Heel-a-thon by Live’s, Kelly Ripa, to be put on. It’s a 150 yard dash and the winner gets $25,000 courtesy of Dr. Scholls. Which is ironic considering that brand is all about comfort. Ha! I just know I would win this thing. (The run benefits the March of Dimes) I have it all figured out in my head. I’ll be right next to Kelly at the start in which I would give her the death stare followed by me winning the race. She will then come up to me and high five me for my spectacular performance and we would head off to brunch and instantly become BFFs! You will then see pics of us vacaying in the Hamptons and leaving a personal training session with Tracy Anderson.

Have you guys ever gasped over a FLAT? Exactly. So what do I do? I find every possible way to wear heels painfree. So every morning I stretch really well. I have even taken up yoga and I go to acupuncture, (my lifesaver). I’ve gone to the internet for remedies. Here’s one you guys will love. On WhoWhatWear, they had an article about the secret to wearing high heels without pain. WHAAATT??!!! Have I just found the holy grail? This is what the article said: Tape your 3rd and 4th toes together to alleviate pain in the ball of your foot. Why? There’s a nerve that runs between those 2 toes and when pressure is applied, there is pain. Taping the toes removes the strain and now your pain-free to stomp around on those heels for as long as your little heart desires. AHHHHHHHH. If you got some tips, send them my way!!

  1. Hey! I feel exactly the same as you! I’ve been wearing heels everyday practically for the past ten years. And just recently I’ve started wearing the occasional flat. But I’ve definitely done my calves and lower back damage! But heels are so worth it 🙂 love your article!
