To meat or not meat, that is a good question.
I actually quit meat about 6 years ago and haven’t looked back. There are times, in the beginning, that I craved a hamburger. Which that in itself was odd because I wasn’t a big burger fan. Now the fries and beer, yes please. I was never a big meat eater and I was one of those that had to have chicken super dry. The juices and smell grossed me out.
I had my theories of hormones in the meats sold in the states and once I read the book “Skinny Bitch” that was all she wrote. That was also before “hormone free” and “organic” became a household name, everywhere. Even though I gave up everything that walked on land, I did still dine on anything from the sea. I love seafood, especially grilled. What can I say, I have the island in my blood. Even seafood is being questioned now in whether or not we should consume it. I do buy only wild caught and whenever possible buy fresh.
So now studies have come out that people should, in fact, eat a plant based diet. With all the “do this” and “not that” I actually have whiplash. So what am I doing? Pretty much vegetarian with the exception of seafood several times a week. Why? Because it’s what I LIKE to eat not because I think it’s best. Sure I watch what I eat; if not, I would eat grilled cheeses everyday of my life. I do put myself on restrictions but I pretty much stick to that. So with that being said, I have bought a new cookbook that my husband is anxious for me to actually try something out of. It’s called Vegan Cookbook for Carnivores by Roberto Martin. He’s actually Ellen DeGeneres’ chef. (Jealous. Note: If I ever won the lotto, first thing I would get is a chef. Ha!)
I’ve also pinned 2 new recipes to our Pursona Girls LOVE To Eat board that is all vegetarian and look so good I had to stop myself from licking the computer screen. I would have kept going but realized the food was actually not there. If you get a chance to try them before me, please let me know how they turn out and I’ll do the same. I’ll also keep you posted on any progress in regards to cooking out of said cookbook. Enjoy!
