Beach Body

I’ve got summer on the brain. I keep telling myself I’m going to stop eating cookies and get completely focused on my summer bod. Let’s just say I haven’t quite gotten rid of the cookies.

I have, however, continued to get my butt handed to me by Kara Layfield  at Uptown Crossfit Bootcamp. That’s right, that short, friendly, sweet girl gets paid to kick my butt and boy does she ever. You wanna know the crazy thing about it? I LOVE it. I love pushing my body to the limit. I love the competition even if it’s with myself. There is no better feeling than after a brutal workout when you’re drenched in sweat and out of breath. I have to ring out my shirt sometimes. I know it sounds gross but it feels so good.

Unfortunately for me, it takes more than working out to get the body I’ve always dreamed of. It takes diet and mental toughness. The mental toughness comes into play because you need that when it’s 5:45 in the morning and your alarm is going off and all you want to do is go back to bed. You need that toughness to say, “Get your fat ass out of bed”. It takes mental toughness to turn down the chips and queso dip, the dressing, the cornbread, and the cookies. Why must food taste so damn good?!!

I blame my parents. We’re Puerto rican. We show our love thru food. They never told me to stop eating even when I should have. My whole family is a bunch of foodies. Well, I have to blame them for something. Look at us. We all have bellies! Why else aren’t I gracing the cover of Vogue or modeling bathing suits? Ha! If all I had to do was exercise, I’d be golden. I’d probably be the thinnest girl in the world. Well, probably not, but I’d be a hell of a lot closer to that beach body I’ve always wanted.

Speaking of diets, are you not as confused as I am? Eat carbs don’t eat carbs. Eat fruit don’t eat fruit. Peanut butter is good. Peanut butter is not good. I’m exhausted and I’ve got whiplash from my head spinning. Type the word “diet” in google and the top three that come up are South Beach diet, Paleo and Atkins. All three very different approaches and all three have gotten people results but are they lifestyle changes? In my opinion, you have to eat everything in moderation and after a health scare about a year ago, I do believe in eating everything in it’s most natural form.  There’s so much to it, yet it’s very simple.

Thank God I have Kara. She can at least bring me back down to earth and keep my head from ringing. At the end of the day, do what’s best for YOU and consistency is the best diet.
