Ahhh the luck of the Irish. Maybe that is why we all love to wear green and join in on the many St. Patrick’s Day festivities. In New York, I get it. There’s probably more Irish people as there are in Ireland itself. Similar to the number of Puerto Ricans.
True story. During my first job after college, one of my co-workers asked where I was from. I said Puerto Rico. She said “OH! So your from New York?!” Ummm, no. You know, like the island, ha!
So what is St. Patty’s Day besides drinking green beer and wearing green? Who can remember waking up late on St Patrick’s Day, rushing to get dressed and out the door, only to find that yourself out of place in the sea of green? When someone goes to pinch you, you immediately say “ I’m wearing green underwear”. Riiiiiiiighttt. Another fond memory is when I was in college and met some friends in Savannah. If you guys don’t know, Savannah, Georgia has one of the biggest and funniest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations around. It’s right along the river and there’s so much food and festivities. It’s almost like a Mardi Gras. Even though I don’t remember ever wearing green (which is weird), I do remember sitting on the curb sharing a great big turkey leg with my best friend Matt. Good times.
So every year on March 17 the Irish and the Irish at heart (us), celebrate what once was a religious feast for the patron Saint of Ireland with parades, beer and a whole lot of green. Ladies, if you want to avoid getting pinched check out some of green accessories that will definitely save you from playing the underwear card, ha! Happy St. Patick’s Day.
