Spring is by far my most favorite season and you’ll be surprised to know why. Behind all these shoes and handbags is just a girl that loves to be outside, play sports and be active. That’s right, I’m a true tomboy at heart. The sunshine is infectious and whatever God put in it just makes you feel good.
With that said, I couldn’t wait to see what the Spring 2014 trends were going to be. But here’s my rule of thumb on trends; if you don’t feel good in the latest greatest or don’t like it, DON’T DO IT. Half the battle is identifying which trends work for you and the other half is feeling confident in the trends that do compliment you. This ability was the entire basis of my store, Pursona’s, tag line: “Carry Yourself Well”. You can do anything you want as long as you carry yourself well.
For example, I couldn’t get into the wedge sneakers. Just wasn’t my thing. I would look at other people and think it was fine but on me, NO WAY JOSE. When I saw this year’s trends, I immediately knew which ones were not going to be in my closet. Crop tops. Don’t get me wrong I’m obsessed with the trend and have even pushed Katelyn (one of our Sole Sisters) to wear it to work (she has the cutest figure). Unfortunately because I’m 35 (yeah I said it), I’ve started to look at things as I’m just not 22 anymore and would look ridiculous and inappropriate. Now hold on, I am not saying only because you’re 35 you shouldn’t be wearing this or couldn’t. One of my best friends has the most amazing body ever and I’m sure she’ll be rocking this until the cows come home (Ash I’m talking about you). It’s just not for me. Unless it’s a “longer” crop top in which case it’s not a crop top! Ha!
Other trends seem manageable and downright fun. I love anything fringe so I’m all over that and you know my love of shoes. I couldn’t be happier that gladiator and lace up cage shoes are still on trend for this season. If you want to step out of the box, I always say try it with shoes. Have fun with your feet. Why? Because it’s a small area! You can still dress the top of your body with something safe. Solids, jeans, simple dress, whatever and then throw on a fun, out of the box (for you) shoe and BAM! You’re a fashionista. At least you’ll feel that way and there’s no better feeling than feeling good about yourself. You’ll be the envy at your next event. Yes I’m attending that baby shower! Ha!
Where are all my singles ladies?
Have you ever noticed how much men notice shoes? I’ll be in an elevator full of women and men alike and it’s the men complimenting me on my shoes.
Put on a fun pair of shoes next time you’re in a grocery store or running errands. Let’s see what happens…all I ask is for a wedding invite. You’re welcome! LOL.
Back to trends. You’ll see a lot of color, which us southern girls are happy about, as well as prints including tribal and floral. You’ll even see matching print sets. Some are amazing and beautiful and some not so much but you be the judge. I may or may not have purchased a matching set. (Hehe) I’ll have to post a picture soon and see what you think.
Besides the gladiators, I think my favorite trend would have to be the skirts.
This is interesting coming from the tomboy who loves her jeans but after all these years of jeans surrounding every outfit, I’m glad to be trying something more feminine. It reminds me of when women wouldn’t leave their house unless they were “dressed”, matching lipstick and all. I’m grateful that rule has been thrown out the window for the most part, however, it was nice to see people taking pride in what they wore. After all, what we wear IS a representation of us. So why not look your best at least most of the time, right? It will also be blazing hot here in Georgia so the skirts will be quite refreshing.
I hope you get inspired to try some of the trends and to start dressing your best. We’ve got you covered on the accessories front so jump over to ShopPursona.com to find a trend that’s right for YOU.
I’ve highlighted a few of my favorites and am sharing some polyvores that Haley and Katelyn created. WARNING: may cause you to want to redo your entire wardrobe and start fresh on shoes. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
As always, thanks for reading and and comment with your favorite spring trends so we can stock the store with your needs and wants!
