I have really been into the Winter Olympics this year because of snowboarding. It was not until adulthood that I discovered my LOVE for the activity. Having understood the ups and downs of the sport, I can fully appreciate the athletes’ talent and abilities. My eyes have been glued to the TV in complete awe over how fast they can go!
This past trip, nothing pleased me more than John (my husband) saying “you missed your calling” or “you could do that”. Even though I’m better than him, let’s be real, he still probably only says that because he knows how much I love to snowboard (hehe). In his defense, he had never snowboarded before we got married. Once we tied the knot, John switched to snowboarding and has left the skis alone for the past 10 years of our marriage so we could stay together on the mountain and share the experience. What girl wouldn’t like that? After much sacrifice, John will be returning to skiing next year, Ha!
I must admit, snowboarding didn’t click right away. I wasn’t terrible but I wasn’t’ great. I never had awful beginner stories, but didn’t feel comfortable all the time. It wasn’t until a few years ago that it started clicking. Last year I finally got my snowboard groove. I was fortunate enough to be able to go twice this year and I absolutely cannot wait until next year. I am 100% addicted and hope that when you are ready to try something new, you will try snowboarding. If you do decide to try it, here are my simple rules that sure help me:
1. Eat a big breakfast. It takes a lot of energy. More than it looks.
