The Evolution of Shoes

The modern day captivation of eccentric shoes crown footwear the hottest accessory category pushing aside “the IT bag” and clothing. Yes we said it, EVEN clothing!

On display now through April 8th, New York’s Museum of FIT is featuring a must see exhibit. The “Shoe Obsession features over 150 examples of the most extraordinary shoe styles of the 21st-century, highlighting the new concepts, constructions, materials and types of embellishment that have positioned shoes at the height of fashion.” – The Fashion Institute of Technology

Take a look at some of our favorites on display and additional images here.

carrie bradshaw shoes

Undoubtedly, Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City for her continual claim to “a woman’s rights to shoes.”

Then there’s Manolo Blahnik’s daring pumps rising shoes to a new height.

And how could we leave out Christian Louboutin’s trademark red bottom soles deriving soul shattering lust uniting women around the globe.

These catalysts expanded shoe departments, boutiques and commenced “designer shoe wars” opening the flood gates for all the greats that exist today.

“Today the average American woman has about twenty pairs of shoes – nearly double what she owned in the late 1990s.” How many do you own?
